Reading the MACD Momentum Panel: How a Score Like 88/100 Actually Gets Built
A field-by-field walkthrough of the MACD Profiles view — how the app scores signal strength, agreement, and stability from its responsive Confirm and slower Trend profiles.

This is the MACD Profiles view — one of three tabs in MACD Signal Insights. Everything below is calculated from the Confirm and Trend profiles' raw values, not a single combined line.

Market Breadth, Signal Timeline, and MACD Profiles (selected here) are three views of the same two-profile evidence. Symbol, timeframe, and period scope everything below to one exact chart.
Legend — two profiles and four marker types
The colored dots identify Confirm and Trend. The remaining legend entries — Bullish crossover, Bearish crossover, Direction changed, and Momentum acceleration — are event markers plotted on the lines.
Top badges — direction, momentum, stability, signal strength
"Bearish 2/2" means Confirm and Trend currently agree bearish. Momentum counts how many profiles are strengthening or weakening. Stable candles reports the shorter same-direction streak, while Recent changes counts direction flips across both profiles. Signal strength summarizes this evidence out of 100.
Crosshair tooltip
Move the crosshair to any point to inspect that exact candle: price, profile agreement at that moment, and the Confirm and Trend breakdown. Historical screenshots may show the retired four-profile baseline; current data displays two profiles.
Per-profile breakdown rows
Each row gives that profile's MACD line (DIF), signal line (DEA), histogram (H), direction, and momentum phase. Read Confirm beside Trend to distinguish a responsive move from one that the slower profile also validates.

| Signal strength | A 0–100 score combining two-profile direction agreement, acceleration, stability, and fresh crossover evidence, with a penalty for disagreement. | One number to rank symbols by, but only a summary — the badges and per-profile rows above are where the real evidence lives. |
| Profile agreement | A count of whether Confirm and Trend currently read Bullish, Bearish, or Neutral. | A clean 2/2 reading is stronger evidence than the responsive Confirm profile changing direction without Trend validation. |
| Momentum acceleration | A profile's histogram growing in the same direction it already points — magnitude increasing, not just staying positive or negative. | Distinguishes a move that is still gaining strength from one that has already peaked and is merely holding its current direction. |
Worked example
Walking through it
The arithmetic behind a Signal Strength score, using round numbers to keep the weights visible (the real screenshot's 88/100 follows the same formula).
- Agreement contributes up to 55 points
Confirm and Trend agreeing in one direction earns the full agreement component; a split reading receives only partial evidence.
- Momentum contributes up to 20 points
Scaled by whether one or both profiles are accelerating rather than fading.
- Stability contributes up to 15 points
Scaled by the shorter same-direction streak across Confirm and Trend, capped at 6 candles.
- A fresh crossover adds 10 points
If any profile crossed its zero line within the last 3 candles, a flat 10-point bonus is added on top.
- Any opposing profile subtracts points
Points are deducted when Confirm and Trend disagree, preventing a responsive profile alone from looking fully validated.
The score rewards accelerating, recently stable two-profile agreement and penalizes disagreement. Check both profile rows, not only the headline number.
Read this before you rely on it
Limitations and conflicting evidence
Signal strength, profile agreement, stability, and event markers summarize the two profiles' raw values; they are not an independent signal. MACD is lagging by construction, so even a strong and stable reading describes past price action rather than guaranteeing what happens next. Sideways markets can still produce a short-lived Confirm crossover that Trend never validates, which is why full alignment requires both profiles.
